Tom Cal Ging

April 28, 1943 — December 29, 2025

West Chester, PA

Tom (Cal) Ging of West Chester, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, December 29th, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 28, 1943, in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania, Cal was the youngest son of his late parents Tom Ghan and New Gee Lee Ging. Following graduation, Cal attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he met the love of his life, Linda Eakle. He graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education and went on to earn his Master of Education degree from Temple University in 1966. Cal and Linda relocated to Southeastern PA and married in 1967.

Cal was an art teacher for over 40 years in the Marple Newtown school district. He instructed generations of middle and high school students and was a gifted artist. He used his artistic talents to create many beautiful installations for Calvary Lutheran Church, and his home was adorned with artwork, including his iconic sculptured front door. Cal also loved music, singing in the church choir for decades.

Cal was active in his community, serving as a scoutmaster when his boys were young and volunteering at Pocopson Home with his wife once they retired.

Besides his family, his greatest joy was freshwater fishing. A lifetime passion—rain or shine—his weekends were spent on his beloved boat with his son, fishing local lakes for bass…and anything else he could catch. Cal was also an avid pinball and aquarium enthusiast. He enjoyed being in nature, family camping trips and cooking meals around the fireside.

Cal is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Linda; his three sons, Tom (Monica), Michael (Susan) and Justin (Christine); three grandchildren, Rowan, Zac and Henry and his older brother Tom (Anita) of Golden, Colorado.

Friends and family are invited to attend a 10:00 a.m. visitation at Calvary Lutheran Church 730 New St. West Chester, PA 19382 on Saturday, February 7th, followed by a celebration of life service at 11 a.m. Interment will be at Calvary Lutheran Church Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Ike Foundation (theikefoundation.org) or Alzheimer’s Association (alzfdn.org).

Cal will be greatly missed, but his memory and spirit will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
