Stephen C. Peranteau, 32, passed away suddenly on 9/13/2023 at his home in Philadelphia after a long battle with addiction.
Drugs didn't love Stephen, they skewed his reality and numbed his heart. He was covered by the devil in his last weeks. Drugs mocked his every attempt to be free, reeling him in like a fish...hooked by the point of a disposable needle. His family would like to speak the truth about his death. Silence would mean that Stephen’s death was in vain but if one person's life can be saved by his story, we would tell it a million more times. We know the pain of his suffering as his family and we know there are hundreds of people here in our community suffering as addicts or as loved ones to them. Speaking the truth no matter the circumstances surrounding the epidemic of drug use may be the difference between life and death for someone. In honor of Stephen's life, we ask that the truth be spread in regards to this epidemic and awareness be raised.
Stephen was born in Philadelphia and raised by his grandparents, Stephen (Carl) and Anne Marie Peranteau who reside in North Wildwood, NJ. Stephen was loved and adored by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his Grandparents, Anne Marie & Carl Peranteau; Brother: Ryan Hanahan (Karla), Sister: Emily Hanahan, Brother: Cole Roden, Fiancee: Bridget Molloy, Aunt: Nicole Peranteau, Aunt: Stephanie Peranteau, Nieces: Scarlett, Sophia & Camila Hanahan, Cousins: Skylar Donahue, Elizabeth Buckwald, Grace Buckwald, Eva Caporaso, Francesca Caporaso & Roman Garcia.
He graduated from Cape May County Technical High School in 2008. From high school, he worked at the University of Pennsylvania where he found his passion, Veterinary Medicine. Stephen then attended Kutztown University to further his career and studies in Pre Med. In 2018, he was inducted into the National Biological Honors Society Tri Beta. In 2019, he received the John C Enk Undergraduate Scholarship and was nominated as "Man of the Year". He was elected to the National Council of Alpha Chi Rho. He served as President, Risk Management Officer and served as the Alumni Chair for the Phi Sigma Tau Chapter of Alpha Chi Rho at Kutztown University and graduated in May of 2020.
From Kutztown, he took his talents to Veterinary Nursing where he pursued his passion and love for animals. Stephen was extremely intelligent and he had a profound love for animals. In 2021, he rescued his dog Garrett after meeting him at his job. He loved Garrett with all of his heart and took him on countless adventures. Stephen and Garrett were recently featured on Tango Charlie Apparel's Instagram page. You never saw Steve without a dog. His love for animals was pure. Stephen was fun and outgoing and he had a love for extreme sports, hiking, traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He had a love for Jesus. He was kind hearted and loving.
Stephen recently got engaged to his love, Bridget. He received a tremendous job offer in Boston and they planned on starting their life together in Boston but there was one huge obstacle in the way. His family and fiancee did everything possible to save him but the drugs won and he was tired. We want to take this time to remember him in the good times.
Please join us in celebrating 32 years of Stephen's life here on earth with us. We believe Stephen was a gift from God to our family and we want to celebrate his time here on earth until we see him again.
