Meagan McGillicuddy Schofer

Meagan McGillicuddy Schofer (née Mongeau), 56, of Bala Cynwyd, PA, passed away on August 9, 2026.

Meagan was born in Embudo, New Mexico, and grew up between Chama, New Mexico, Philadelphia, and South Jersey. She was a graduate of Rutgers University.

Meagan and her husband, Ethan, first met as kids at Camp Dark Waters, where they became friends and stayed close through their camp years and beyond. Life took them in different directions after college, but in the summer of 1998, they were reunited when mutual friends rented a beach house on Long Beach Island, where they both happened to be staying. On one rainy day that summer, Meagan suggested they watch all three Die Hard movies — and Ethan knew right then he was hooked. They began dating that fall and went on to build a life together.

Meagan was an excellent cook who never stopped chasing new recipes and new food adventures. In later years, travel became another way for her to explore food from around the world, and cooking became a love she shared with Ethan and their daughter, Sadie, filling their home with new dishes and family time in the kitchen. She also had a lifelong love of art, and in recent years rediscovered a passion for painting and other crafts, often working with watercolors at the dining room table or in their art room. Music ran through her life as well — another thing she shared with Ethan and Sadie, from mix tapes in their early years together to playlists traded in more recent ones. Whether in the kitchen, at the dining room table with a set of watercolors, or building the perfect playlist, Meagan brought curiosity and joy to everything she loved.

She is survived by her husband, Ethan Schofer, and her daughter, Sadie Schofer; her mother, Linda McGillicuddy; her siblings, Theo Mongeau and Eliza Mongeau; and her stepmother, Maggie Mongeau. She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Mongeau.

A Celebration of Meagan's Life will be held on Friday, August 28th at 11:00 AM at Green Street Friends Meeting House, 45 West School House Lane, Philadelphia, PA 19144.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Meagan may be made to the Colorectal Cancer Research Fund at Penn Medicine.
