Loretta Mae Slaybaugh, 84, of York Pa and then later Newtown Square PA, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on July 7, 2024. Loretta was the daughter of the late Millard and Martha Miller of Seven Valleys PA, and the beloved sister of Paul Miller (Elaine) of Seven Valleys and cherished sister in law to Suellen Hughes (John) of Longmont CO. Loretta was pre-deceased by sister Janet Louise Miller.
Loretta grew up helping on her families’ dairy and poultry farm which also had a variety of other crops and animals. She graduated from Susquehanna High School in 1957 and immediately got a secretarial job in the ‘city’ of York, PA. At this job, she met a handsome young man who she would later marry and become an executive secretary for him and his family business.
Loretta enjoyed a remarkable 61-years of marriage to her beloved husband, the late Bruce Wilson Slaybaugh. Together they shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unforgettable memories while working hand in hand each day at the family interior design business. They raised their daughter Beth Ann Slaybaugh Hines (Michael) and in later years spent endless hours with their two grandchildren, Cole and Ella Hines. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Loretta always prioritized her family’s well-being above her own. This devotion and kindness carried over to her extended family, friends, neighbors and anyone she met. She had a warm heart, gentle spirit, and was never idle, constantly volunteering at her church, within her community, or where ever there was a need. In addition to volunteering, she was always baking,….homemade stickie buns and donuts will be some of the first things we will all miss.
Loretta will be fondly remembered as a kind, compassionate and generous soul who made a difference in the lives of many. Her legacy of love and service will carry on through her family and friends.
A celebration of life service will be held on Thursday, July 18, at White Horse Village (535 Gradyville Road, Newtown Square PA 19073) where Loretta called home for her last 4+ years. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00, followed by celebration of life service at 11:00am in the auditorium.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Loretta’s memory may be given to the Alzheimer Association, Chicago IL. or Main Line Health Homecare & Hospice at 240 N Radnor Chester Road Radnor PA.
