Leonard D. Kennedy, Jr., son of the late Leonard and Patricia (O’Connor) Kennedy, passed away at Lankenau Hospital on January 27, 2025. Born in Philadelphia and a resident of Upper Darby, he was a proud graduate and loyal alumnus of Msgr. Bonner High School (1970) and Villanova University (1974).
A trained accountant, Len worked in both the private and non-profit sectors. He also served as a volunteer member and officer of Upper Darby Fire Department Company 3 and the Mayfair Federal Credit Union.
A devoted fan of the Phillies and the Big 5, Len was known for his basketball skills on the Bywood Playground, a dry, quick wit, gracious generosity (he always picked up the check and wouldn’t take any credit!) and a mastery of trivia that baffled many, He is survived by his brothers Michael (Diane Zablotsky) of Charlotte, NC, and Jack (Joyce Madancy) of Delmar, NY, and sisters Patricia Kennedy of Malvern, PA, Denise Scott (Robert) of Paoli, Rosemary Bilbrough (Russell) of Media and Eileen Lang (Richard) of Havertown. He is remembered as the “fun uncle” by 12 nieces and nephews, who were taken by Len to pull the fire truck horn as a rite of passage. Len was predeceased by his companion, Lousie Eller.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring. Memorial donations may be made to Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic HS, 403 N. Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill, PA 19026. Monsignor Bonner & Archbishop Prendergast Catholic HS
