John David Delaney

John D. Delaney, 77, of Springfield, Pennsylvania, devoted husband of the late Catherine T. “Kay” Delaney (Taylor), passed away peacefully on July 10th, 2023 amongst family.

Born on November 12, 1945 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, John was the son of the late John B. and Rosemary B. (Carroll) Delaney.

After John graduated from Monsignor Bonner High School in 1964, he went on to study English at Saint Joseph’s University. He then embarked on a long career in the computer industry.

In 1960, John met the love of his life, Kay, at a school dance. John and Kay went on to marry and have two sons, Sean (Anne) and Dave (Sara).

John enjoyed making people smile and laugh, always having had a witty pun at the ready, and was always interested in hearing how you were doing. He was extremely proud of his grandkids and great-granddaughter. Throughout his life, his interests included auto body restoration, home improvement projects, watching boxing, rock & roll, playing his guitar, and all things Wawa.

A few years after Kay’s passing, John found happiness again and spent several wonderful years with his beloved companion, Janet Thompson.  John was an adored grandfather to Andrew, Liam, Bryn, Callahan, and great-granddaughter Olive.  He is also survived by siblings Mary Carroll, Jude, Priscilla, and Christopher, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation, michaeljfox.org, an organization for which John and Kay felt strongly.
