Passed away peacefully on Saturday after battling Parkinson's Disease.
A prolific photographer, music lover and train aficionado, his collections were the envy of many. John loved a good road trip, always a good excuse to photograph a steam train.
He was a proud graduate of Boston University and earned an MBA from Northeastern University. John founded his first photo company, Colortek, in Boston and his career spanned many years and organizations, eventually retiring from Kodak in 2001.
A former member of Temple Emmanu-El of Edison and current member of Temple Sholom of Broomall, he valued his Judaism, participating in adult learning, the choir and advisory boards.
John is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Barbara Barr, children David Haddin Barr (Cindy Barry), Sara Mekler (Mark) and Stefani Moon (Brian), as well as grandchildren Amanda (Ryan), Zachary (Anna), Wyatt, Emerson, Quinn, Melissa and Casey (Rachel) and six great grandchildren, sisters Helen Barr and Pamela Marcus, brothers Larry Marcus (Karin) and Steven Marcus and best canine pal Charlie.
Preceded in death by his mother Olive Barr (nee: Shacklock), father John Fredrick Barr, stepmother Regina Barr, granddaughter Dana Mekler and beloved dogs Morgan and Tucker.
The family would like to send a special thank you to caregivers Francisca and Rita and the team at Second Family for their compassionate care.
A memorial service will be held at Temple Sholom in Broomall on October 13, 2025, at 11:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Parkinson's Foundation, www.parkinson.org or Temple Sholom are appreciated.
