James D. Thacker
January 10, 2023. Died peacefully at home from congestive heart failure and 52 years as Type 1 diabetic. Born July 4,1939, reared in Monon, IN and lived for most of his adult life in Philadelphia and Elkins Park. Becoming diabetic at age 31, he changed careers from urban planning to health education. Had lifelong active involvement with music and sports, running 3 marathons. Survived by his wife Maurine Doggett, sons Jorge and John Thacker, sister Dona Davidson, sister- in- law Elizabeth Null, brother-in-law Bob Johns, and eight nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Don and Dorothy Thacker, brother John Thacker, and sister JoAnn Johns. A memorial service will be held in the spring at Tabernacle United Church in Philadelphia. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Doctors Without Borders.
