iller James Melvin April 29, 1934 - May 8, 2026 May 8, 2026, lived an exceptional life full of love, service, and generosity. Married 67 years to the love of his life Doris Mae (Watson) Miller, they made a remarkable team. He will be deeply missed by so many including; daughters Dawnn and Sherri, sons-in-law Jay, Joe, and Billy, grandchildren Chelsea, Mark, Ryan, Christian, and Isabel, great grand-children Zoey and Austin, nieces Cathy and Cindy and their families, the "Mountain Gang," and his many many friends. Jim, also know as Mel, served in the United States Navy on an aircraft carrier during the Korean war. He had a 25 year career in the Philadelphia Fire Department, reaching the highest civil servant rank of Assistant Chief. His second career was as Director of Fire and Occupational Safety at the University of Pennsylvania, were he served for 17 years. A Service to celebrate his life will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 16th at Chelten Church, located at 1601 N. Limekiln Pk., Dresher, PA 19025. Family and friends are invited to greet loved ones prior to the service from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. In lieu of flowers, please surprise someone with candy, dinner, or a big tip.
