James (Jim) L. Kohler Sr., 75, of Pottstown, PA, Passes Away
James "Jim" L. Kohler Sr., 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, February 4, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. Born on April 2, 1949, in Pottstown, PA, Jim was the son of the late Leo and Ida Kohler. He was raised in Pottstown and graduated from Pottsgrove High School in 1967.
Jim and his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Sylvia R. (Van Alstine) Kohler, spent over 40 years living in Schwenksville before relocating to Pottstown in 2021. Jim worked at Mrs. Smith’s Pies until the plant closed and later spent many years with the Berks Montgomery Municipal Authority (BMMA) in Gilbertsville, PA, where he retired in 2017.
A man deeply devoted to his family, Jim was known for his quick wit, humor, and love for life. He enjoyed attending NASCAR races, had a passion for the Philadelphia Eagles, and cherished the time spent with his family at the beach. Jim also had a special love for music and riding his Harley. His cat, Gatta, was his companion and "baby," bringing him comfort and joy. Above all, Jim’s greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his family and creating lasting memories with them.
Jim is survived by his wife Sylvia, his daughters Sherry Harding and her husband Keith of Royersford, PA, and Desiree Sidella and her husband Aaron of Port Carbon, PA, and his son Kyle Kohler and his wife Laura of Collegeville, PA. He is also survived by his treasured grandchildren Katelyn, Gavin, Maddie, Gabriel, Sebastian, Lucy, Ryan, and Zoey, as well as his great-grandson, Mason. Jim is further survived by his sister Shirley Kelly and her husband Barry of Boyertown, PA, along with several nieces and one nephew.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, James Kohler Jr., and two grandchildren, Corey and Jonathan.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring for family and friends to honor Jim’s legacy. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the Dementia Society of America at dementiasociety.org.
Jim’s family and friends will remember him for his infectious laughter, generous heart, and unwavering devotion to those he loved. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
