It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our Dad, Jim Harrington on Sunday, October 19th at the age of 90.
Dad was born to Madeline and Arthur D Harrington on July 13, 1935, in North Philly. They lived there until 1949 when they moved to Springfield. He went to Springfield High School where he graduated, later attending the University of Delaware for Electrical Engineering. During this time, he was also involved in the ROTC. He met Mom in Springfield High and carried on a relationship together through college, traveling on weekends from the University of Pennsylvania and Delaware. They married in 1958 and traveled to Fort Hood, TX where Dad was stationed as a Lieutenant and advanced up to a Lieutenant Colonel. Their family started with Nancy in 1959 and once they moved to Springfield, the family grew in 1961 with Jim and Bill in 1963.
Like our Mom, Dad was also very involved in the community. At a young age, he joined the Jaycee’s and then became a member of the Lions, where he held numerous positions over the years, Vice President, President and District Governor. He still continued his life with the Army, recruiting young men for West Point. He too was very active in the First Presbyterian Church and was voted to the Volunteer Wall in Springfield.
Dad was a man of integrity, deep faith and had a profound love for his family. He was the most gentle, honest and sweetest man we have ever known. His presence will be deeply missed. We love him and Mom dearly.
Jim is predeceased by his wife Diane of 67 years and his parents Madeline and Arthur D Harrington. He is survived by their daughter Nancy, and their sons Jim (Lisa) and Bill and three grandchildren: Gianna, Kayla and Julianna.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, 356 Summit Rd, Springfield, PA, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow at First Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be shared at www.cremationsocietyofphiladelphia.com. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Springfield, Lions Club of Springfield, or the American Heart Association (heart.org).
