Helen Arlene Pearson

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Arlene Pearson, who passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on September 11, 2026.

Born in Philadelphia to Edna and William Ziegler, Arlene grew up helping her mother care for her three brothers, learning early the importance of family and creating a loving home.

Helen—who went by Arlene and was known affectionately as "Ar" to her friends and family—was a remarkable woman whose love, wisdom, and quiet strength shaped the lives of everyone around her. She was cherished for her compassionate heart, her warm sense of humor, and her ability to make anyone feel welcome.

Arlene was married twice—first to Dr. LeRoy I. Sykes, the father of her four children, and later to James Pearson—each marriage adding meaningful chapters of companionship and family to her life. An awesome cook and devoted homemaker, she poured her energy and heart into raising her four children—Mark, Michael, Erick, and Carla—a role she often said was her greatest challenge and her greatest joy.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, James Pearson, and her son, Michael Sykes. She is survived by her children: Mark Sykes (Karen) of Goodyear, AZ; Erick Sykes (Carla) of North Port, FL; and Carla Sykes (Mark Friedman) of Southampton, PA.

Arlene’s legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched, the family she nurtured, and the love she gave so freely. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
