Obituary for George Fredric Nissly

December 6, 1945 – April 28, 2025

George Fredric Nissly, lovingly known as "Fred," passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with lung disease. He was 79 years old. Born on December 6, 1945, to Bernice and George Nissly, Fred was a devoted family man, a proud veteran, and a beloved “Pappy” whose warmth and humor will be missed dearly.

Fred grew up on Plum Street in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1963. Soon after, he joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country as a Staff Sergeant. Stationed in the United Kingdom, he met his first wife, Marjan de Kok, with whom he had three children.

On April 13, 1979, Fred married Janis Sharpe McCue and became the loving stepfather to her three sons.

In 1990, Fred earned his Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Heald College in San Jose, California. A man of many passions, Fred loved cars, music, dancing, cheesesteaks, pizza, and the strongest black coffee you could make. But above all else, he adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Over the last 25 years, he was known affectionately as “Uber Pappy” and “Animal Sitter Extraordinaire,” roles he embraced with joy and devotion.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice and George, and his grandson, Samuel Brunner.

He is survived by his sister, Sue Klos; his three children, Marieke Nissly James of Lancaster, PA, Jean-Paul Nissly of Marietta, PA, and Peter Nissly; and daughter-in-law, Michelle Nissly of LItitz, PA. He is also survived by his stepsons: Michael Brunner and daughter-in-law Tiffany Szekely Brunner of Millersville, PA; Mark McCue and daughter-in-law Elsa McCue of York, PA; and Stephen McCue and daughter-in-law Victoria Clark McCue of Watsonville, CA.

Fred leaves behind 15 grandchildren: Meagan Duck, Krystina Clark, Hannah Brunner, Sydney Brunner, Olivia Brunner, Samantha Brunner, Jordan McCue, Keiran McCue, Amelia McCue, Marleesa James, Aleena James, Benjamin Nissly, Ashton NIssly, Collin Nissly, Schuyler Nissly, Paityn Nissly, and 10 great-grandchildren: Lyli Anne, Elli Anna, Oliver, and Abigail Clark; Charlotte and Dylan Duck; Rowen and Margaux Burress; Gideon Nissly and his namesake, Georgia Abbandando.

The family will honor Fred’s life and memory with a private celebration of life. His legacy of love, humor, and service lives on in all who knew and loved him.
