Gary Vervoort of Wilton, CT passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 18th 2025, at the age of 89.

Gary was born in Englewood, New Jersey to Horace and Edna Vervoort. He was raised in Cleveland Ohio until the age of 10 and then Manhasset Long Island where he was an active member of the Boy Scouts, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout with Gold Palm. As a member of the Manhasset High School football team in his freshman year, Gary had the opportunity to play alongside future Hall of Famer Jim Brown. He subsequently attended Valley Forge Military Academy where his platoon leader was a young Norman Schwarzkopf. After graduating, he served for three years in the United States Army. Gary proceeded to earn a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Vermont. It was there on campus that he met the love of his life, Rosemary Vervoort, to whom he remained married for 64 years.

Gary and Rosemary lived on Long Island until 1971, and then moved to New Canaan, Connecticut where they raised their daughter and son. Gary worked in New York City for Eastman Chemical, a subsidiary of Kodak, where he was known for his outgoing personality and sense of humor. Gary enjoyed playing Yahtzee with the family and was an avid NY Jets fan, with season tickets for the years the Jets played at Shea Stadium. Gary’s multitude of hobbies included photography, fishing, gin rummy, drawing, painting, camping and travel. He visited over 75 countries across 6 continents and also enjoyed family trips with his wife and children – including a 2 week trip along the East Coast and a 3 week trek cross-country.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents Horrace and Edna, and his wife Rosemary. He is survived by his two children Patricia and Jonathan, his two grandchildren David and Samuel, his two daughter's in-law Amber and Lucy, and his three great-grandchildren Rian, RaeLynn, and RiLynn.
