Frances Bowers

With great sadness, we announce the passing of Frances J. Bowers of Quarryville, PA on September 6, 2025. Frances was born on May 23, 1942 in West Chester, PA to Russie F. McMichael and Everett McMichael. She is survived by children Laura Arkatin (Paul), Valerie Weaver (Michael), and Bret Bowers (Kesha); 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; brother Sam McMichael and sister Nancy Berkowich. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rodney and brothers Charlie and Larry.

Fran graduated from Oxford Area High School in 1960 and married her high school sweetheart Rodney, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage. During Rodney's army enlistment, they lived in many locations, finally settling back in Oxford to raise their family. After Rodney's retirement, the couple moved to Florida where Fran worked in retail and returned to PA in 2014.

Fran was renowned in the family for her cooking, especially her biscuits! While she was an avid reader and liked a good mystery, she also enjoyed perusing old cookbooks, noting recipes to be tried. Fran liked finding a good bargain and loved sharing her great finds with family and friends. She most loved drop-in visits and always had the coffee on, a sweet treat on the counter and an ear ready to listen! Her family was a special source of pride for her and she valued the relationships she maintained with both family and friends. She will be greatly missed by those who also held her dear.

A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, September 25 at the Barn of Nottingham, 101 Ponds Edge Drive, Nottingham. Interment will be private.
