Elizabeth Louise “Betty Lou” Klarnet (née Pieffer), born May 10, 1944, in Homestead, Pennsylvania, lived a life centered on family and learning. A military wife for 22 years, Betty Lou lived in many states across the country—from New Jersey to Washington State—and in Germany while raising her four daughters. She embraced every move as an adventure, favoring cross country road trips over air travel and introducing her children to the history and culture of each place they lived. Family was always her priority, and vacations often included visits with relatives to maintain strong family connections. Betty Lou worked for many years at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, where she loved being surrounded by books and reviewing them before they were shelved. She was predeceased by her brother, Louis Pieffer; her sister, Shirley Thomas; and her grandson, Christopher Boles. She is survived by her brother, William (Beatrice) Pieffer; her daughters, Jeanette (Tom) Boles, Vickie (Rob) Hartman, Mary (Mark) Lucas, and Christinia Klarnet; her grandchildren, Katie, Michael, Sam, Andrew, Dillon, Ryan, Paul, Tyler, Brandon, and Maddie; and nine great grandchildren. Betty Lou’s life was one of love, curiosity, resilience, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured and the memories she created with those she loved most.
