Edward Douglas Eckels Sr., 68, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on March 20, 1958, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Ed lived a life marked by love, laughter, perseverance, and personal growth.
Throughout the years, he faced challenges with remarkable determination and resilience, always finding a way to move forward. His devotion to family and friends left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
For many years, Ed worked as a skilled carpenter and contractor, taking great pride in the quality and craftsmanship of his work. He found satisfaction in building with his hands and bringing projects to life.
When he wasn't working, Ed enjoyed spending time on the golf course, cheering on the Eagles, watching classic Western films, and appreciated a cold beer by the fire. Ed also enjoyed the time he spent with his family and friends just living his life.
Ed is survived by his loving partner, Christine Balmer; his children, Christina (John) Sheridan Dana (Terry) Eckels, Angel (Eugene III) D'Amico, Samantha (Nicholas) Eckels, Kelly (Joseph III) Eckels, , Amber Eckels, and Edward Eckels Jr.
He also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and one great-grandson, who brought tremendous happiness to his life.
In addition, he is survived by his brothers and sisters, many nieces and nephews, and numerous extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory for years to come.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Barbara Eckels; his grandparents; and his beloved grandson, Sage McManus.
As his family grieves this loss, they also celebrate a life well lived and the countless memories he created along the way. His strength, humor, and enduring spirit will continue to inspire and comfort those who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ed's life during a memorial gathering on June 30, 2026, at McCausland-Garrity Funeral Home, 343 South Chester Pike, Glenolden, PA 19036. A memorial viewing will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, followed by a small ceremony from 7:00 to 8:00 PM.
