Devon Claire Mizzell Madison of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a devoted educator and community leader, died on March 5, 2024 at age 34 from brain cancer. The daughter of Jane Clark (deceased) and Christopher Madison, Devon is survived by her husband, Ian MacKinnon; her son, Clark MacKinnon; her siblings, Bennett Madison (John Koblin) and Lucy Madison (Robert Klein); several aunts and uncles including Julia Clark Salmon; and six nieces and nephews. Devon was born and raised in Takoma Park, Maryland. After graduating from Vanderbilt University, she moved to Philadelphia in 2011 and began a career in education. She worked for several years as a special education teacher and was appointed as the assistant principal at Andrew Hamilton School in 2021. Devon was a founding member of Minds Matter of Philadelphia, a mentoring program for high school students, and served in a number of roles for the organization. She was also a board member of Northwood Academy Charter School. She earned a master's degree in school leadership from the University of Pennsylvania. A memorial service will be held at Takoma Park Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. Donations in Devon's name may be made to support her son's education or to Minds Matter of Philadelphia.
