David Weir Barr
Born: August 9, 1942
Died: June 11, 2022
On June 11th, 2022, the world lost a legend and heaven gained an angel. After a courageous two-year battle with kidney cancer, David Weir Barr, 79, passed away surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives to the fullest. No matter what you knew him by: Bearsy, Dad, Pops, Pop Pop, Uncle, Dave, David or Mr. Barr, Dave was a larger-than-life presence with a kind soul, contagious personality, and caring spirit.
Dave was born on August 9, 1942, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to James Barr and Ruby (Agnew) Barr. Dave grew up in Northeast Philadelphia where he graduated from Germantown Academy. He then attended the University of Maryland and later Brown University. Dave was in the commercial banking business for over 40 years. As most people know, Dave absolutely loved Philadelphia and anything to do with his hometown. He was a diehard fan of the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, Flyers and Penn Quakers and the pinnacle of his sports fandom was seeing his beloved Eagles win Super Bowl 52 in February 2018.
He loved his wife and best friend of 47 years Donna (DePutron), his children Alexis (Joe) Knorr, David (Susan) Barr and Dana (John) Shaffer and his six grandchildren (Jocelyn, Connor, Kayla, Anabelle, Hannah & Noah) with all his heart and he was most complete when spending time with them at sporting events, recitals, the Jersey shore, and Sunday dinners. He is also survived by his sister, Marion Poole, several nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends that he considered family.
We are heartbroken and will miss him terribly, but we know he is no longer suffering and is in a better place today.
May you Rest In Peace, Dave.
Family and friends will be received on Saturday, June 18th, 2022 from 12:00 to 1:30pm with a funeral mass immediately following at St. Dorothy Catholic Church, 4910 Township Line Rd., Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
