Darryl Clinton Price (also known as Kofi Mensah), age 63, entered eternal rest on November 7, 2025, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Darryl was born on February 23, 1962, in Cincinnati, Ohio. Darryl was preceded in death by his parents Louvenia and Eddie W. Price and his sister Catherine Price. Darryl spent his early years in Cincinnati enjoying baseball, basketball, football, bowling, and tennis. Darryl attended Walnut Hills High School where he met his future wife.
His time in the Air Force from 1987 until 1991, was marked by dedication and excellence, earning him several honors including the Air Force Training Ribbon, AF Longevity Service Award, NCO Professional Military Education Ribbon, and the National Defense Service Medal. While stationed in Japan (Okinawa), Darryl developed an appreciation for the culture. Upon an honorable discharge, he remained in Japan where he worked for an IT company and became fluent in Japanese, taught English as a second language, wrote for a local newspaper, and played on a Japanese professional basketball team.
Darryl was a software developer who worked with various languages, operating systems, and software. Darryl was a subject matter expert in Messaging, Identity Management, Perl development, and Software Quality Assurance while working with companies such as Bell Labs, Mirapoint, Computer Sciences Corporation, Reynolds and Reynolds, Comcast, and Verizon. Darryl received his Bachelor of Science degree from Montclair State University.
In 2013 Darryl started experiencing symptoms and was finally diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) in 2014. Darryl was listed for a double lung transplant at New York Presbyterian and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. After five dry runs, on June 24, 2016, Darryl received the gift of life, a new pair of lungs.
Darryl embraced life fully, guided by a sense of spiritual awareness. A few weeks after his discharge from the hospital, Darryl walked in the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation 8th Annual Garden State Run/Walk. Post transplant, Darryl resumed playing tennis and basketball. He participated in the New Jersey Sharing Network 5K Celebration of Life and the Annual Gift of Life Donor Dash. Darryl had a sense of adventure which led him to skydiving, white water rafting, ATV riding, and mountain climbing. In August of 2019, Darryl returned to the place he loved most on this earth, Japan. He spent four months traveling the country, visiting old friends, and making connections with the Japanese Respiratory Society.
Darryl spent the last few years of his life documenting his adventures in Mexico. Darryl’s hobbies included reading, listening to music, tennis, basketball, learning new languages, playing the guitar, writing, traveling, photography, and aerial videography with an emphasis on composition and lighting.
In the 11 years that followed Darryl’s diagnosis, his kind spirit made every breath count. He championed various charities and efforts to provide support to other transplant patients by raising awareness for organ donation and contributing to research for Pulmonary Fibrosis. Darryl was incredibly empathetic and always made time to help others, such as organizing fundraisers. He had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and curiosity about our world, often spending time researching topics of interest.
Darryl will be remembered for his sense of humor, thoughtful conversation, and desire to make the world better. Darryl’s legacy reminds us to live with purpose, compassion, and love.
Darryl is survived by his spouse, Terri Lathan, siblings: Maxine Price Moore, Kenneth Price, Shawn Price and Sherri Lathan (sister-in-law), special nieces and nephew, and a host of loving relatives and friends. He was a cherished husband, caring brother, and good-hearted friend.
Memorial services will take place in December in Cincinnati. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Darryl’s memory to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, the New Jersey Sharing Network Foundation, or the Clyde F. Barker Transplant House.
