With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Alice Salamon on October 22, 2024, at the age of 93. A devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cherished friend. Alice’s presence was a constant source of love, wisdom, and laughter.
Born on January 18, 1931, Alice witnessed and contributed to nearly a century of change and progress. Her life was a testament to resilience, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to family, church, and community.
Alice was an alumna of Mont Pleasant High School in Schenectady, New York and after graduation worked for the New York Telephone Company as an operator. She temporarily transferred to the Catskills in the summers connecting such famous people as Bob Hope. On June 5, 1954, Alice was united in marriage to Stanley Salamon. The couple moved to Rotterdam in 1963.
She loved to golf and would often bring her boys on the course to get in a quick round. Alice was a Eucharistic Minister and taught church school for St Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Rotterdam, New York. She also volunteered at Birthright in Schenectady helping young mothers and babies get necessary supplies. During her children’s school days, she volunteered in the libraries at the Schalmont School District Elementary schools of Pine Grove, Jefferson and Woestina.
Alice was an avid reader, loving historical fiction and books based on real life characters. She loved spending time camping, traveling, at the beach, at their camp in Sacandaga Lake, and at their timeshare in Williamsburg, VA. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was very prominent and powerfully supportive in all her grandchildren’s lives and activities. Above all, Alice will be remembered for her beautiful smile, gentle kindness, quick contagious laughter, unwavering faith, and undying commitment to her family.
