Adam Raymond Joseph Hollinger passed surrounded by his loving kids and daughter-in-law at 12:45 AM May 20, 2023 after a fast but furious fight with metastatic bladder cancer.
He was called many things: Ray, Knocky, Adam, but his favorite things to be called were Dad, PopPop, and Coach.
He was born June 29, 1935 to Alvin Hollinger, Sr. And Adelaide “Gertrude” Hollinger (neé Deacher) in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania upstairs from his father’s candy shop. He is preceded in death by his brothers Barry, Alvin, Jr., George “Thomas”, a sister, Rose Ashe, and another brother, David, who died in infancy. He is survived by his sister, Rita Herzog, and his kids, Adam Hollinger, Jr. (Michelle Krum), Thomas Hollinger (Alesha Fornicola), and Karen Huller (Tim.) He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and seven beloved grandchildren.
He grew up in the Olney neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia and attended Incarnation of our Lord School and Northeast Catholic High School.
Adam/Ray served as a telephone installer in the Army stationed in Georgia. After the army, he attended Gwynedd-Mercy College. He worked the bulk of his career at Bell Atlantic/AT&T as a technician, from which he retired, and enjoyed a part-time career as a Realtor. He attended night school at Immaculata University. After retirement, he had various vocations, including as a basketball coach for Germantown Academy, where his team proudly competed against Koby Bryant, a tennis coach at Upper Merion Area High School, a limousine and bus driver, and a mediator for the USDA. He restrung tennis racquets for his friends and a few customers.
He was an avid tennis player and classic car enthusiast, particularly Lincolns. He loved music, quoting 1940s-1970s pop culture, and barbecuing at his home. He had recently built a tiki hut for this purpose with trees from his yard and started learning to play guitar and pickleball.
Please leave a note of memoriam if you wish to be informed about a celebration of life, which will be scheduled in the summer.
