Dominic Joseph Ficara, age 80, passed away on September 11, 2021. Dominic was born on May 23rd or May 24th in 1941 in Hazleton, PA or Paulsboro, NJ. This confusion is indicative of the challenges of his childhood, which he spent with his brothers and sisters between Paulsboro and Hazleton. What we do know is that Dominic left behind a legacy of laughter, unending teasing, and incredible perseverance in the face of adversity. He enlisted in the Army at 17 after graduating high school; his sharpness allowed him the good fortune of serving as a cryptographer in Germany. Upon his return home, he was employed by the National Guard before working as a pipefitter for the Texaco refinery in West Deptford, where his stubbornness manifested into incredible union advocacy on behalf of himself and his fellow workers. He married Dorothy Snell in May of 1964- arguably the best thing he’s ever done. Together, they raised two children in West Deptford, NJ before moving to Melbourne Beach, FL and eventually to Mullica Hill and Franklinville, NJ. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Ficara, his children Ken Ficara and Holly (Steve) Kilpatrick, grandchildren Sean Ficara, Kelsi Ficara, Anna Kilpatrick, and Ian Kilpatrick, and many loving nieces and nephews. Services and interment are private.
