Sept 7, 1964 – April 18, 2021
Fred A. Finkey, Jr, died fighting at home after a
short 12 month battle with brain cancer with his
wife and children by his side. Fred died exactly 12
months from the day he was diagnosed with a Stage
4 Glioblastoma, April 18th, 2021.

A Memorial Service is planned for July 22, 2021 at
3:00PM at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 10
West Pleasant Grove Rd, West Chester, PA 19382
with a reception in their fellowship hall to follow.
Visitation with the family will begin at 2:00PM. In

Fred spent the first 6 months of his cancer battle building a workshop (that he always wanted). He put up 10’
sheets of drywall all by himself to finish the space. Fred could build or fix anything. He was frequently told that
he did not look like he was ill. The next 6 months were the fight of his life and that he did.

the family will begin at 2:00PM. Due to the Fred’s unexpected death, the family is requesting financial
assistance instead of flowers.

Fred was an HVAC Specialist. He began in the HVAC trade at age 16 while attending Henderson High School in
West Chester, PA and taking classes at VoTech. He worked in the residential HVAC business beginning in 1980
and he switched over to light commercial. He did try the self-employed route for a few months but he would
come home with a cake or cookies or a jar of candy or nuts as payment so it did not last long. He landed his
dream job as a Service Supervisor with PVBJ, Inc. in 2013. He was always on the phone with a new client or
someone from his network who was stumped and unable to troubleshoot a problem. He would patiently ask
questions and receive pictures of problems and help troubleshoot until the system was up and running again.
He took calls from anyone in the field who needed help. He really loved his work.

Fred also loved his family. Beginning with a dream wedding in 1995, he never looked back. The family life was
definitely what he wanted. He attended every Girl Scout, Cub Scout, Boy Scout, cheer competition, soccer game,
football game, lacrosse game, camping trip, play or event that his kids were involved in. He called or texted
each one of his kids every day – even if it was to drive safe, wear your mask or have a great day. He loved being
at home during the holidays. He was on-call for the kids at all times and would show up anywhere at any time if
someone needed help to change a tire or if the car did not start. He would provide smoke or carbon monoxide
detectors for the first house the kids rented with friends. He really lived for his family.

Fred enjoyed the shore and the beach – even if he would not get in the water. He just sat in his beach chair
under the canopy watching the kids in the water and in the sand. He loved his little dogs. He shared his
breakfast with them every day. Toffee, Milkshake and Latte would sit patiently and wait for buttered toast – he
would make a slice for himself and a slice for them to share, there is nothing he ate that they didn’t.

Fred was a creature of habit. He ALWAYS had a cup of coffee in his hand or on his desk. He was an addict! He
drank a pot of coffee a day and he could still sleep at night – unbelievable, I know. Breakfast during the week (at
WAWA of course) was a biscuit with egg and cheese; and lunch (at WAWA) was either a soft pretzel and an iced
tea or a ham and cheese sandwich with mustard. His favorite dinner foods were macaroni-and-cheese and
cheeseburgers. He would eat mac-n-cheese every night if it was possible but it was at least 4 nights a week. He
drove everyone crazy with his mac-n-cheese addiction. And he was a candy freak – we are still finding Sweet
Tart wrappers around the house.

Fred is survived by his wife Jennifer; son Fred A Finkey, III; daughters, Olivia, Samantha and Gabriella; his father
Fred A. Finkey, Sr.; and sisters, Rebekah Johnson (Michael) and Jennifer Dwyer (Joseph); 5 nieces and nephews
(Michael, Taylor, Madison, MacKenzie and Delaney); and one great niece (Adeline). Fred is preceded in death by
his mother Shirley Finkey.
