Rosalina Gonzalez, 83, of Philadelphia, passed away on February 21, 2021.
Rosalina Gonzalez was born in the town of Salinas, Puerto Rico in April of 1937. Born to Thomas and Isabel Perez. Rosalina or as her friends affectionately called “Rose” was one of 7 Children.
As a child, her family moved to Philadelphia and she lived and attended Public schools in the Poplar neighborhood. She loved learning and reading books. After Finishing school, she married Jose Gonzalez, and through that union had three children, Jose Gonzalez, Joyce Gonzalez, and John Gonzalez. Some years later she had a fourth child, Eric Gonzalez.
Rose was a responsible, industrious person, who cared for people and appreciated all things no matter how small they were. She loved dancing, Travelling, Weekend trips to the Jersey Shore, and cooking, and everyone enjoyed her meals. Her favorite flower was a red rose, and you could see signs of it all over her home. Everyone, she met instantly enjoyed her company and it seems no matter where she went in her travels throughout Philadelphia someone would recognize her and stop to talk to her, and after having a long conversation with the person, she would often say “I can’t remember who that was, I guess I knew them, they know my name.” That always brought on a good laugh.
Rose was what you could consider a Jackie of all trades! She worked in the manufacturing and textiles industries for most of her working life. Anywhere from installing fabric over record player speakers, to becoming a shop steward at a sheet metal manufacturing facility. She also was a seamstress and a beading instructor in hand-made wedding gowns. But the most enjoyment was in her later years working with infants and toddlers as a Childcare instructor. She truly loved children, even having some of the ones she cared for spend nights and weekends with her.
She was a fantastic and wonderful mother. She excelled at propping up and supporting her children and grandchildren through the many passions and difficulties of their lives. She made it her mission to improve the lives of others.
We will miss her greatly.
Rosalina was predeceased by her brothers Augustin Davila, Eliezer Perez, William Perez, Fernando Perez, and sisters Georgina Perez, Catalina Perez-Gonzalez, Doris Perez.
She is survived by her (4) Children - Jose (Miriam), Joyce (Samuel), John (Liz), and Eric (Dawne), also her (15) Grandchildren and (10) Great Grandchildren. Our Dear Rose is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
