Kurt Reiss

September 19, 1927 — January 25, 2021

Reiss Kurt W. of Haverford, PA, died on January 25, 2021. He came to the United States in 1940, having fled Nazi Germany. He attended Central High School and Temple University. Shortly after graduating, he became a CPA. He worked for Tait, Weller & Baker and J.P. Stevens. Most of his career was spent at SmithKline (pharmaceutical company). He started as a cost accountant and eventually became the Chief Financial Officer. Kurt was a lover of the arts and supported museums, theatres, and many musical organizations, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, which he attended for 70 years. He played violin in the Main Line Symphony Orchestra for over thirty years, and served on the board for the Academy of Vocal Arts and belonged to the Musical Fund Society of Philadelphia. He was preceded in death by his sister, Renate, and her husband, Louis. He is survived by his wife of over seventy years Mary-Ann, sons Steven (Loretta) and Robert, daughter Suzanne (Howard), grandchildren Fred (Dorit), Charles, Valerie (Will), Alexa (Graham), Madeleine, Benjamin, great-grandchildren Daniel, Levy, Connor, and Avery and nephews Bill (Jessica) and Dick Rosenblatt. Donations in Kurt's honor may be made to Play on Philly, (playonphilly.org) an organization that provides music education to underserved children in Philadelphia or the Settlement Music School (settlementmusic.org). There are no services planned at this time.
