With great sadness, we announce the passing of Rodney V. Bowers of Quarryville, PA who succumbed to COVID-19 at Lancaster General Hospital on December 9, 2020. Rodney was born on September 25, 1941 in Wilmington, DE to Carl V. and Kate (Helen) Aldridge Bowers. He is survived by his wife Frances J. Bowers and daughters Laura Arkatin (Paul) of Quarryville and Valerie Weaver (Michael) of Rising Sun, MD; son Bret Bowers (Kesha) of Milton, FL; grandchildren Ashley, Gregory, Tyler, Matthew, Megan, Callie, Kate, Alister, and Elliot; and great-grandchildren Alyse, Paul, Penelope, Piper and Helaina. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Betty Broomall and Doris Alexander.
Rodney graduated from Oxford Area High School in 1959, served in the U.S. Army and retired from General Motors. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Florida where he sold real estate, returning to this area in 2014. He was the family's go to person for any project, acting as a sounding board for ideas and problems while offering suggestions and solutions along the way. He renovated his and Fran's homes, painted and sketched, flew planes, played the saxophone and accordion badly, wrote novels, brewed beer and baked bread. He laughed the hardest at his own practical jokes and quips. He wrote Letters to the Editor, corresponded with family and friends, grumbled at the news and opined on many subjects. A voracious reader, Rodney loved to read passages he found interesting to Frances, who sometimes didn't find them quite as entertaining as he did!
But of all his interests and passions, nothing could possibly outshine the love, respect and devotion Rodney had for his beloved wife, Frances. They marked their 60th wedding anniversary on November 19th and without any doubt, he loved the life they shared over those 60 years. He loved the family they created and was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all the family and friends who held him dear.
Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held at the family's discretion and when it is safe to do so.
