Michael Viola

April 18, 1954 — May 13, 2020

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Michael Viola of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania at the age of 66. He passed away peacefully after many years of illness in the presence of his wife and children on Wednesday, May 13, 2020.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 35 years, Darcie A. (née Wilson) Viola, his loving children, Michael A. Viola and Alexa M. Viola, his precious granddaughter, Gianna Rose Viola, his sister, Louise Kelch, and his brother, Francis J. (Carolanne) Viola, Jr. He is also survived by his nephews and niece, Gregory (Meg) Leonard, Christopher (Briana Edwards) Kelch, Brittany Jividen, Stephen Viola and Alexander Viola. He also held a special place in his heart for Jessie Giles and John Reilly, along with his extended "family" and close friends.

Michael was born on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1954, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Francis J. Viola, Sr., and the late Marie (née Martino) Viola. He attended Our Lady of Angels in Philadelphia until 1968, and he graduated from Lower Merion High School in 1973, where he played football.

He worked for The Franklin Mint prior to becoming a ceramic tile installer. He started his own successful business in 1984 and moved to Florida. He moved back to Havertown, Pennsylvania, in 1989 with his wife and son, and then settled in Upper Darby, where his daughter was born. After over 25 years installing tile, he worked for Continental Tile, followed by Big 3 Packaging Company.

Michael was a coach for Mike and Alexa's HPKAA T-ball/baseball teams. He was involved in all of his children's activities, from sporting events and school events, to music recitals and concerts. He was a "hands on" family man, a loving father, and devoted husband. Michael was known for his sense of humor, wild stories, and just being an all-around good man. He enjoyed watching sports and listening to music, but above all else, spending time with his family.

A celebration of life service will be held after the pandemic has ebbed and we are able to congregate.

The family requests memorial donations be made to the Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, in honor of his granddaughter, Gianna Rose Viola. Ways to give. https://giving.apps.upenn.edu/fund?program=MC&fund=604304&appeal=PMWEB
