Morton A. Hurwitz, devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully at age 86 on November 10, 2019 in Wyncote, PA. He was predeceased by his wife Herma (Dimmer), his brothers Herbert, Charles, and Louis, his sisters-in-law Carmen and Iris, his brothers-in-law George and Melvin, and his nephew Mark.
Mort was born in Philadelphia to the late Esther (Stone) and Morris Bertram Hurwitz on March 21, 1933, and graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School. During the Korean War, he served as a radio operator in the Navy, and once discharged, graduated from Temple University. In 1960, he married Herma, and together they welcomed and raised their daughters, Michelle, Leslie, and Carlyn.
Mort is survived by his children, Michelle Sarnese and son-in-law John, Leslie Hurwitz, Carlyn Hurwitz and daughter-in-law Lynn Holdsworth; his sister Sally Deitch; sister-in-law Wilma Dimmer; his grandchildren Stephanie, Nicole, and Alex Sarnese, and Jeremiah Holdsworth; his great-grandson Levi Holdsworth; and his many nieces and nephews.
Mort’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Wyncote Place, as well as those at Compassus Hospice of Fort Washington for providing loving care and comfort during his final days. In honor of Mort’s last wishes, no services will be held, but his family is grateful for everyone’s love and support during this time
