William Eyre

 William Broadhurst Eyre, Jr.

August 1st, 1943-July 6th, 2019

William Broadhurst Eyre, Jr., age 75, of Bucks County, died unexpectedly, yet peacefully on July 6th, 2019 and went home to his Savior. He was born in Woodbury, NJ on August 1st, 1943 to William Broadhurst Eyre and Mary (Glahn) Eyre. He was the second in a family of 6 children. Bill lived in Doylestown, PA, Maryland, Massachusetts, and Buckingham, PA while growing up. He worked on his Aunts’ farm in Buckingham, Pa. while in school. He graduated from Central Bucks High School in 1961, and was a Varsity basketball player, as well as a member of the track team and National Honor Society. Bill attended Drexel University and was the captain of the ROTC Rifle team.  He graduated in 1966 with his BS in Mechanical Engineering and also obtained his P.E. license.  Bill worked for the U.S. Navy for 12 years as a Project Engineer, during which he traveled to the Philippines, Germany, Hawaii, and many other U.S. locations.  He worked for Allied-Signal Corp. in Philadelphia as a Supervisor in Project Engineering, and moved to Kentucky with his family in 1980-1982 to work for Allied Chemical as the Supervisor of Reliability Engineering. Bill worked for several other companies as the Lead Engineer/Chief Mechanical Engineer and retired from Javan & Walter, Inc. in Fort Washington, PA.

His favorite pastimes were time spent with his very active family and time in the garage where he enjoyed working on cars.  In 2006, Bill and Lyn moved to the small town of Honeybrook, Pa. where they lived for 9 years.  During their time there, they became involved with the Amish community, where they “worked” with joy, as English drivers.  Bill enjoyed learning about the details of farming and the work that was involved in their daily lives. Bill developed deep friendships with the people in this community.   Throughout his life, this loving man and his family were very involved in church activities. Bill often helped with projects at Washington Crossing UMC.

He was a very kind, and caring husband and father. His children, grandchildren, relatives, and friends all enjoyed listening to Bill’s stories, which were always filled with detailed memories from his early years with his siblings and parents, to his years working for the Navy and time spent on air-craft carriers, and so many more.  As an involved grandfather, he helped with projects involving engineering at all levels, attended plays, swim meets, soccer games, and annual Pinewood Derby projects. Bill was preceded in death by his first wife Beverly Eyre, his parents, his sister, Sarah Jane Eyre, and his second wife Lynda Eyre.  He is survived by his six children:  William B. Eyre, III (Kelsey), Amy Einolf (Tim), Jessica Linde (Doug), Allison Benini (Tony), Suzy Yorgey (Ken), Christina Wilcox, 17 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.  He is also survived by his 3 sisters and 1 brother. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to one of the charities listed. Anyone wishing to remember Bill can honor the deep respect that he developed for the Honey Brook Amish community during his 9 years living in Honey Brook.  Donations can be made to the Amish Fund, through the Bishop Daniel Stoltzfus.  This fund supports the long range medical needs of the Amish community.  As an alternative, you could also donate to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).

The Memorial Service for William B. Eyre, Jr. will be held on August 16th, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. 

Location:  Buckingham Friends Meeting, 5684 Old York Rd. Lahaska, PA 18931.   A light luncheon will be served immediately following the service.
