Herma (Dimmer) Hurwitz, a longtime resident of Northeast Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by the warmth and love of her family at age 78 on March 31, 2019 in Wyncote, PA.
She was born in Philadelphia to the late Anne (Simpson) and Samuel Dimmer on June 7, 1940, and graduated from Olney High School in Philadelphia in 1958. She married Morton Hurwitz in 1960, and together they welcomed and raised their daughters, Michelle, Leslie, and Carlyn.
Herma is survived by her loving and adoring husband of 58 years, Morton Hurwitz; her children, Michelle Sarnese and son-in-law John, Leslie Hurwitz, Carlyn Hurwitz and daughter-in-law Lynn Holdsworth; her brother Mel Dimmer and sister-in-law Wilma; her sister-in-law Sally Deitch; her grandchildren Stephanie, Nicole, and Alex Sarnese, and Jeremiah Holdsworth; her great-grandson Levi Holdsworth; her nieces Aileen DeFroda, Deena Dimmer, Ellen Cohen, Mindy Bufty, Faith Nightlinger, and nephew David Hurwitz.
Herma’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Wyncote Place, as well as those at Compassus Hospice of Fort Washington for providing loving care and comfort during her final days.
In honor of Herma’s last wishes, no services will be held, but her family is grateful for everyone’s love and support during this time.
