Agnes Dougherty Crane

January 25, 1941 — January 25, 2019

Agnes D. Crane, devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother died peacefully on Friday January 25, 2019 (her birthday), at the Little Flower Manor nursing home in Darby, PA. She was 78. Agnes possessed a wonderful mix of spirituality and scientific intellect that made for a rich, unconventional life. She traveled the spiritual path, taking up yoga and meditation more than 40 years ago and visiting India numerous times in her pursuit of life’s deeper meaning. Agnes was kind, non-judgmental, and a great listener and will be missed by her family and many friends who loved her. Agnes was born and raised in Pottsville, PA. She attended Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA where she earned a degree in Chemistry. Agnes met the love of her life, Thomas F. Crane Jr. at a dance in Frackville, PA when they were both home from college. They were married on February 27, 1965. After a short time teaching high school chemistry, Agnes dedicated herself to her family, raising three children, Thomas III, Stephen and Agnes. In their golden years, Agnes and Tom enjoyed spending more time with each other and travelling throughout the United States in their convertible Ford Mustang. Even though Agnes liked to complain about that Mustang, she loved the open road, studying maps and of course telling Tom where to turn next. In December 2009 Agnes suffered a serious stroke, but she recovered and enjoyed precious years with her grandchildren before her health once again began to decline. Through it all, Tom dutifully took care of her, staying by her side until the end. Agnes leaves Thomas Jr., her husband of 53 years; her children, Thomas III, Stephen and Agnes; and her four grandchildren, Misgana, Biruk, Eleanor and Ian. Memorial Service will be planned at a later date.
