Robert Joseph Gibbons, 73, of Wayne, PA, died Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Bryn Mawr Hospital. Dr. Gibbons, an educator all his life, was the Executive Director of the International Insurance Foundation, a non-profit organization promoting economic development through technical and professional education for emerging insurance markets. A 1967 graduate of Kenyon College, Dr. Gibbons earned his Ph.D. at Yale University in 1972, specializing in economic history and international economics. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph J. and Hazel B. Gibbons, and his brother, Albert Gibbons. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Mary Harrison Gibbons; sister, Betty G. Smith of Boca Raton, FL; children, Michael Gibbons (Michelle Carey) of Lake Stevens, WA; Mary Jo Wells of Collegeville, PA; Jean DiMaria (Peter) of Berkeley, CA; Caroline Fenner (Jim) of Poughkeepsie, NY; and four grandchildren (Nicholas, Tate, Cormac and Suzanna). A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 8, 2018, at 10:30AM at Trinity Episcopal Church Gulph Mills in King of Prussia, PA. All are welcome. Contributions may be made in memory of Dr. Gibbons to Episcopal Community Services of the Diocese of Philadelphia or St. Peter’s Food Pantry of Phoenixville, PA.
