Marguerite A. (Mandi) Veil of Media, PA died on March 15, 2018 in Wynnewood, PA of complications from breast cancer. She was 59 years old. Mandi was born in Reading, PA in 1958 to John W. Veil, Jr. and Marguerite C. Veil (Caylor). She grew up in Wyomissing, PA, graduating from Wyomissing Area High School in 1976. She attended Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland Baltimore County following high school but did not graduate. She began working for Aetna Insurance and held a variety of positions of increasing responsibility in Pennsylvania, Maryland, California, and Connecticut.
While working in Connecticut, Mandi studied at Trinity College in Hartford, CT. In 1997 she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. degree in Public Policy and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa society.
Following graduation from Trinity, Mandi accepted a job with the American International Group (AIG) working from Wilmington, DE. She had responsibility for global medical business development and managed medical business units in Hong Kong, the Philippines, Malaysia, Russia, Greece, Mexico, and the Caribbean.
In 2002, Mandi became a Regional Vice President of the Group Management Division for Central and Eastern Europe for the American Life Insurance Company (ALICO – an affiliate of AIG). She lived in Athens, Greece from 2002 to 2008. In 2008 she returned to Wilmington and served as ALICO’s Vice President and Global Healthcare Director through 2010. She oversaw health care business lines in 42 countries.
In 2010 the ALICO business unit was sold to MetLife, Inc. Mandi served as MetLife’s Vice President of Global Health Care through 2014, when she retired. She had responsibility for group health care business lines and wellness capabilities in 20 countries, including a new market launch in China.
Mandi is survived by three brothers -- John A. Veil (wife - Carol Veil) of Annapolis, MD, David O. Veil of Kempton, PA, and Quentin H. Veil of Wyomissing, PA – and a niece, Katherine M. Veil (husband - Fabio Drucker) of Brooklyn, NY.
Mandi loved to travel – she had frequent opportunities to travel in her job, and often spent her free time traveling to other destinations. Mandi liked food and food preparation, and she was working on a Master’s degree in Food Policy from City University in London after her retirement. She enjoyed gardening to produce her own vegetables, cooking with healthy ingredients, and sharing her creations with other people. Mandi enjoyed the company of her beloved cat, Clara, whom she adopted as a stray while living in Athens (Clara has her own Greek pet passport to enable her emigration to the U.S. with Mandi). She supported animal shelters in several communities.
