Daniel Francis Pepersack

Dan loved life and living it.  Through this love, he was fiercely dedicated to the people in his life. Foremost, he walked this life with his soulmate, best friend - Carol. She was his accomplice on treks through Thailand, Peru, South Africa and every tiny hamlet in between - his co-conspirator in zany and ambitious life plans. They would find laughter and joy in life’s most mundane or peculiar experiences.

Dan’s light will shine though Carol and their beautiful children, Lachlan (age 11) and Eloise (age 7). Dan and Carol created a home of both comfort and adventure for their children. Dan reveled in his role as family chef and, ever eschewing a cookbook, would create spontaneous meals for his family while Thelonious Monk, Tom Waits and Miles Davis spun webs of words around their living room.  Lachlan and Eloise reflect Carol and Dan’s passion, creativity and thirst for knowledge.

Dan embodied the notion of no regrets. He sought experiences which connected him to other people and ideas that mattered.  Dan was quirky, hilarious, creative, curious and eccentric.  He directly engaged with the world and it returned his energy handily through the gifts of travel, art, fine wines, poetry and music. He was drawn to ideas, philosophy - the esoteric and arcane. He would bring his book on astrophysics to his New Jersey beach chair, Zen Buddhist philosophy to his favorite Philly neighborhood coffee shop and Calvin and Hobbes comic strip anthologies on his Sailfish on the Chesapeake. And while he could discuss these complex topics with fluidly and humility, he could quickly shift to mull over the latest Orioles lineup or the perfection of a fresh UTZ Old Bay Crab Chip. His motivation for these discussions was never the topic itself, but rather a conduit to engage with other people.  He wanted to know you and would take any path to get there. Only the fish who refused to be tricked onto his hook could resist his charms.

While he would boldly risk wearing his beloved Baltimore Orioles cap in Phillies territory, he loved being part of his Philadelphia neighborhood, especially volunteering as a board member with The Palumbo Soccer Club where both children enjoyed time on the field.

In 1994, he formed Pepersack Design, LTD, an interior design and of­fice space planning company, which he felt was the perfect ‘right brain- left brain’ combination to suit his curiosity. In 2015, he accepted a position with a Canadian design firm, lnscape Corporation, and reveled in the collaborative environment of a team.

He attended the University of Maryland and graduated from Towson University with a de­gree in Interior Design. He loved to watch Terps’ football and basketball games with his father, Don, and was fiercely loyal to his home state of Maryland.

Dan, age 50, died in his sleep, likely of a cardiac arrhythmia. He is survived by his wife, Carol McLaughlin; children, Lachlan and Eloise Pepersack; mother-in-law, Ann McLaughlin and sister-in-law, Debbie Smith. Born and raised in Baltimore, Dan is the son of Joan Tuttle Mcgill and the late Donald Pepersack, and grandson of Marguerite Tuttle.   He is survived by his step­father, Pete McGill; sister, Cari Pepersack Mariani, her husband, Nick and nephew Jack; step brothers, Dan McGill & his wife Nicole and Peter McGill & his wife Carroll.

The family will receive friends for a Celebration of his Life on Friday, November 3 from 10:30am-2:00pm at The Mendenhall Inn 323 Kennett Pike (Route 52) Men­denhall, PA 19357.
