Catherine O’Brien (nee Wilson) died peacefully at home in Audubon, PA at the age of 91 on October 26, 2017.
Cay is survived by daughters Nancy O’Brien Singer (Harry) of North Wales, PA, Mary Alice O’Brien Tolen (Mike) of Cherry Hill, NJ, and Joan O’Brien Hart (Kevin) of Pleasanton, CA. She had seven grandchildren: Kevin Singer (Erin), Matthew Singer (Jasmine), Mikayla Tolen, Meade Tolen, Hayley Hart, Hannah Hart and Sophie Hart and a great grandchild on the way. She is preceded in death by her husband John (Jack) O’Brien, parents Joseph & Jane Wilson, siblings Joseph Wilson (Mary) and Jane Dunne (Charlie) and an infant son, John Jr.
Catherine was born on October 24, 1926 in Philadelphia and attended St. Mary’s Academy (high school), Chestnut Hill College and Temple University where she received undergraduate and graduate degrees in Education. She married Jack O’Brien and they lived in Cherry Hill, NJ and Mount Laurel, NJ for most of their lives. She has been a resident of Shannondell Retirement Community in Audubon, PA for the past 10 years. She worked for the West Deptford, NJ school system for over 24 years where she taught primarily first through third grades. She was a working mother, an active and dedicated member of her church and volunteered throughout her life acting as a progressive role model for her three daughters.
A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, November 6th at St. Teresa Avila (1260 S. Trooper Rd., Norristown, PA 19403.) Friends and Family may call from 8:45am-9:45am followed by a service that will begin at 10am. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Catherine’s life. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in her memory to Chestnut Hill College (9601 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118).
