Thelma Grobes received her BEd (1978) and MAE (1996) degrees from Temple University. She is known for her etchings of personal, intimate, and honest nude female figures. Inspired by Henri de Toulouse-Latrec, her images emphasize line and acute angles and feature viewpoints that are bold, brazen, and arresting. For more than fourteen years, she has exhibited at the Artist's House Gallery in Old City Philadelphia. Grobes has received several awards and fellowships, including two fellowships from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (1992 and 1994) and a Dorothy and Hugh Hutton award for etching in 2002. In addition to several private collections, the collection of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and the collection of the Delaware Art Museum, her work can be found in the permanent collection of the Free Library of Philadelphia.
